ber{SEMANGAT} : How Art Grants Help Creative Practitioners

With COVID-19 hitting the creative community globally, it is important to highlight that within Malaysia, there are organisations and institutions which have been consistent in their mission to offer grants or support to ensure that our creative community is able to continue with their practice.

We came across CENDANA's Visual Arts Production Funding Programme via one of our artist guide, Cassielelolea end of last year, who is also one of the 45 beneficiaries of this grant, culminating and showcasing the fruit their journey at a multidisciplinary exhibition titled ber{SEMANGAT} at the Galeri Puteh, KL ECO City until the 30th October 2022

Art grants and various type of fundings are resources important to support the creative community as they continue to pave the way in documenting the times that we live in.

Artists are story tellers of life and plays an integral role as an individual creator, and coming together to move cultures and ideas. Their creation does not just preserve times but also challenges the society's status quo with questions and with new thoughts to ponder.

The accessibility of such grants which support the creative community is vital for the continuity of an artist's journey. By being able to produce and showcase their works, it is a platform for discussions and possibilities, to be able to engage with the wider public with diverse voices.

The theme ber{SEMANGAT] feels to us, an effort to revitalise the creative community and highlighting their fighting spirit during this challenging times. To us, the theme serves as a quick retrospective of what has happened in just the past year from where we stand now and to be able to appreciate what has come to passed and be stronger going forward.
